The summer has started and if you are like most of my San Diego personal training clients, you are looking forward to enjoying the outdoors. With the gorgeous scenery from the mountains all the way to the beach it is mighty tempting to take your exercise out of the gym and into the fresh air. It sounds exhilarating, I know, but there are also some safety precautions that you need to take if you plan on venturing out alone.
Here are a few tips for safely exercising outdoors this Summer.
1.) If you must go alone bring your phone…and some pepper spray. I know it may sound a bit over the top, but this will lessen your likelihood of becoming a victim.
2.) Go early. Try to get your workout in early in the morning during the summer as this will be the coolest time of day. The further into the afternoon you wait, the more likely you are to get heat exhaustion.
3.) Wear sunscreen. No one wants racerback tan-lines! (or worse yet, a burn!)
4.) Don’t go off the path. Stay in populated, well-marked and well-lit areas.
5.) Keep jewelry to a minimum. This will prevent muggings.
6.) Wear light or reflective color clothing.
Follow these tips for a safe San Diego summer. Always remember to stay hydrated and to dress in light-colored clothing to stay cool. Who knows, you may find yourself going for a cool off swim in the ocean!
With all of the new fitness products that come out I do my best to test out as much as I can. I always want to have the best recommendations for my San Diego Personal Training clients. Here is a list of my favorite new fitness products that I’ve tried out this year.
1.) Reebok RunTone Shoes- After experimenting with the Reebok EasyTone shoes, Reebok was nice enough to send me out a pair of RunTones for my efforts. These shoes have all of the leg toning benefits of the EasyTones only in a lighter running shoe. Several of my San Diego Personal Training clients have already purchased these shoes on my recommendation and love them! Check out my product review here.
2.) Nike IPod Sensor- If you prefer Nike sneakers, Apple and Nike have made an awesome product that you slip right into the bottom of your Nike compatible shoe that will track and monoitor your workout progress. The data will transfer from the sensor in your shoe to your IPod or IPhone to tell you your mileage, heartrate, and speed. You can find it at nike.com or your local Apple store.
3.) Victorias Secret VSX Workout Clothing- Victoria’s Secret is no longer just for undergarments. They now have a great line of workout gear that is not only comfortable but it’s cheap and washes well. With the pricy workout gear these days, Victorias Secret has definitely combined a solid product at a low price. Try their Sports Bras too! Good news, they sell this online and in store.
4.) Norvell Sunless Tanner- Want to look beach bronzed without the burn or orange hands? Try the Norvell Sunless tanning system. Both a popular brand of celebrities and upscale salons, you can finally get that streak-free glow without the dangerous repercussions of the sun. You can only find their products here or from a distributor like myself.
Well there you have it, my favorite new products this year! Give them a try and please feel free to leave some feedback in the comment section below.
After a month of rainy weather, I was finally able to conduct my La Jolla Boot Camp on dry land! I had been waiting to test out my Reebok EasyTone sneakers on the sand of La Jolla Shores. After a long week of standing and product demos at the IHRSA convention here in San Diego, I have to admit, my legs were pretty tired. I wanted to test how effective the EasyTones would be in Boot Camp.
As I tested a few weeks ago, the first thing I noticed was just how hard it was to lunge in these shoes. (you can watch the video here) This was especially true at boot camp on the grass. We also did a set of lunges in the sand which really challenged our legs. The dynamic warm-up in the grass along with the 30 minute workout went well. Now onto the next challenge…jogging in the sand.
Tide was on the high side this week, so we were forced to jog in the soft sand. This was an extreme challenge in the Easytones as the sand kept moving under the balance pods giving me a feeling that my feet were not completely touching the ground. A good workout for me, but something that I might not recommend for a beginner.
(And let me just warn you, working out in the Easy Tone shoes is not for beginners. It takes a lot of core strength. Keep in mind that these exercises are a bit difficult for me, a fitness professional.)
When I woke up on Sunday morning, my calves were sore. This is probably from trying to stabalize on the sand during the boot camp jog. Reebok has been nice enough to send me out a complimentary pair of RunTone shoes, so I am willing to bet that they will be a bit better for jogging.
That’s all for now! Stay tuned for my RunTone testing videos and blogs!
The past few days have been quite rainy in San Diego, so I haven’t had a chance to do much testing with the Reebok Easy Tone shoes. My plan was to wear them to my La Jolla Boot Camp on Sunday, however it was rained out!
My plan is to continue with the testing this week, shoot a few more videos, and give them a Boot Camp workout! Stay tuned for more.
I will also be wearing these shoes to the IHRSA San Diego fitness convention on Thursday and Friday…come see me as the Spokes-model for Marpo Kintetics! Can’t wait to take some fun videos.
Okay, so here it is…Day #2 of my Reebok Easy Tone experiment. Today I decided to try a simple strength training workout in between clients. Check it out below!
More coming tomorrow!
I am finally going to share with you my experiences with the Reebok Easy Tone shoe. As a San Diego Personal Trainer, I have been waiting almost 2 months to start a Reebok Easy Tone experiment! Today I was fortunate enough to actually find a pair of these sneakers in my size at a local San Diego Foot Locker. These shoes are close to impossible to find in stores and online (unless of course you wear a size 10 shoe). Are you ready to find out what all of the hype is about? I am.
I am going to take you on my day to day journey, as a San Diego Personal Trainer, to test out how well the Reebok Easy Tone shoes work. All of the reports or commercials on TV talk about simply wearing the shoes walking. I want to see what they can do for my daily activity level and hopefully be able to recommend them to my Personal Training clients in the end. And let me just tell you…I’m on my feet all day.
I’ve been wearing my Easy Tone’s since I bought them and plan on wearing them all day. The shoes feel great. They are very cushioned…almost too cushioned for my taste. I expected a more torturous feeling, but they are surprisingly comfortable. Their weight is a bit on the heavy side so running will be a lot of fun.
I am getting ready to work with an evening full of personal training clients, so we’ll see how it goes! Check back in tomorrow to see what happens.
